Overview
Users go to the shelter to find out that the pet is not available.
Available online pet adoption websites are clustery and not well-organized.
Goal
Problem
The goal of this project is to let the users browse the application first before visiting the shelter to enable saving the users’ time.
Make it easier for the users to filter all the animals to see whether what wanted is available or not.
End Result
Final Application Design & Solution
The high-fidelity mock-ups created using Nestle's existing design system, our assets, and usability testing results.
USER RESEARCH
Firstly I researched to know more about the potential users of the application, then I used the information obtained during the research to create empathy maps. I found out that the target users are individuals who are looking for a specific pet breed to adopt but always end up not finding it in their local shelter. This can frustrate the users and cause them to cancel looking for alternative breeds since their experience with the application is not enjoyable.
INTRODUCTION
Hi. How are you? I would like to thank you for your time and appreciate the feedback that you will give about our design.
My name is Jyoti. I am a UX researcher. I am here to assist you in our app’s usability study. Before we begin, I would like to have your permission to record this session. Do I have your permission?
I will start by asking a few questions, and I will give you some tasks to complete using the app. Your feedback and comments are really valuable to our team as they will help us make some improvements in the app before releasing it to the app store. I need to say that there is no wrong or right answer for doing the tasks so do the tasks as if you are using our app, and don’t think negative comments are sort of rude or anything else.
Do you have any questions about the session before starts?

USER PERSONAS
The main target of this application is users who want to adopt a pet but get frustrated by the crowded application and long adoption process.
USER JOURNEY
Karmen’s user journey demonstrates her usage of the pet adoption application and improvement opportunities.
COMPETITIVE AUDIT
“Adopt a pet” is an indirect competitor that offers adoption services for people who want to adopt cats, dogs, and other animals.
“Pet Finder” is an indirect competitor that offers cats and dogs for adoption as well as some articles to help people who want to know how to take care of their pets.
“The Shelter Pet Project” is a direct competitor that provides adoption services as well as helps users locate nearby shelters. It also provides videos about people’s stories of adoption.
COMPETITIVE'S STRENGTHS
All of the competitors provide detailed information about the pet which makes the process of choosing a pet for adoption easier. Pet finder outstands the other parties by providing articles about taking care of pets which target not only the people who are planning to adopt but any person who wants to know how to take care of the pets. The shelter pet project included an amazing feature which is displaying a video of people’s life after adoption which encourages adoption.
COMPETITIVE'S WEAKNESSES
All of the competitors didn’t consider including accessibility features.
All of the competitors’ applications are crowded and disorganized.
The shelter pet project filtering option doesn’t work properly.
WIREFRAMES
I started drawing the interfaces that demonstrate a complete user flow. The main goal of this stage is to make the pet’s search and adoption process as easy as it could be.
LO-FI PROTOTYPE
After making sure that all-important features have been added to the paper wireframes, I started to create lo-fi prototype using Adobe XD.
USABILITY STUDY RESULTS
USER FLOW
After finishing the usability testing, I considered users’ feedback in redesigning the interfaces and adding the requested features.
